senior guide

class of 2023

hey there!

Senior year is a transformational, exciting, terrifying, wonderful, wild time. Like, so many emotions there. That's why I absolutely love working with seniors - you've got so much fun energy + personality to bring to the table while I document this extra special season of your life.

My goal as a photographer is to make sure that you don't have to miss out on any of these moments. I wanna capture all your laughter, I wanna help you to feel your best, and I wanna send you into your final year of high school feeling super confident and empowered. Creating non-traditional + unique images is what I love most, so If that's what you're looking for, you're in the right place.

This guide is meant to give you all of the details you'll need for your senior photo experience, and then we can start planning a session tailor-made for you! If you have any unanswered questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!

lots of love, Alyssa (she/her/hers)

the boring stuff

Let's get a few of the less exciting (though super important) things out of the way, shall we? Once you've decided to book a session, I'll send you a questionnaire to find out some crucial details - your scheduling preferences, favorite movie, etc. We'll select a date for your sesh, and then I’ll send over a digital contract for you + your parents/guardian to look over. If you're under 18, please have them sign it for you! A 50% deposit will be required to hold your date, and it can be paid online directly from your contract. The remainder of your payment will be required at the time of your session - check, credit, and Venmo accepted!

choosing a location

Once we've got all of those things taken care of, the two of us will work together to decide on a location that totally fits your style. Whether you're looking for a field full of flowers, the grungiest alleyways, a cozy coffeeshop, or a sunshiney beach, I've got a whole bunch of places tucked away just for you! I'm always up for traveling and exploring too, so if you've got something special in mind you can totally let me know! I love finding fresh + fun locations for each of my seniors so that I can better reflect your individuality, and I'm willing to go just about anywhere to make that happen. (Any locations within an hour of my home base in Green Bay are totally free! If you're looking to venture further, we can chat about potential mileage fees.)

wardrobe selection

Listen, I know what you're most excited for: filling up those shopping bags with a bunch of new outfits for your shoot. There are a couple of things to keep in mind when you're putting together your wardrobe. First, I'd suggest that you try to choose things within your comfort zone. If fancy isn't your thing, you can stick to jeans. If you're not into whatever the newest trend is, skip it. Bring pieces that you feel best exemplify your personality, and you'll automatically look amazing. If you're having trouble deciding what to wear, you can always drop a few snap-shots in my inbox and I'd be happy to help you out! I've shared a few tips just a few scrolls away, too!

the shoot + beyond

So, the day has arrived and we're ready for your session - what happens? We'll most likely be meeting up at your first location about two hours before sunset so that we can shoot in the best light of the day. If it's looking like rain (or one of those horrifyingly hot + sticky days), no worries! We'll reschedule for a drier day (unless you're up for a rainy shoot, we can rock that too). Depending on the package you select + the locations we explore, sessions can take about one to three hours. I don't put any limits on the posing options, we'll shoot as long as we feel inspired! After we wrap up, you'll have a Facebook, Instagram, or email preview within 24 hours so you can check out how cool you look. The remainder of your Images will be ready within about three weeks, and will be delivered in an online gallery! From here, you can download your images, purchase prints, and share with family + friends!

let’s make magic

a few pointers for your best shoot

take care

It’s best not to make any drastic changes to your appearance within two weeks of your session. I’d recommend scheduling your hair cut or color appointment at least a week or two beforehand, as this will give you time to adjust any mishaps, get comfortable with styling, and help things to look a bit more “settled” on top of that head of yours. This rule also extends to things like brow waxes - it’s best not to do these on the day of your shoot to avoid any wonky redness. Please exercise caution when you’re out in the sun, too! Tan lines are quite tricky to edit out and will result in an additional fee to remove, and sun burns will result in rescheduling (plus, like...it’s not good for ya).

dream big

It’s super important to me that your session suits you perfectly. If you’ve got some creative ideas, things you’d like to incorporate, or an outside-the-box location, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I love when my seniors approach me with thoughts on what would make their shoot extra special for them, whether it’s bringing the family pet or shooting at your grandparents’ house or including your artwork/record collection/favorite book. Is there a shot you’ve been dreaming of forever? I wanna make it happen for you.

warm welcome

Definitely feel free to bring your friend or two, your sibling, a parent - whoever will make you feel most comfortable. However, I do suggest keeping your entourage on the smaller side! Extra eyes on you can feel intimidating, and too many voices often make it more challenging to keep the focus on you during the shoot. I also suggest for parents + guardians to try to take a step back and let your senior shine. I know it’s super tough to resist the urge to nit-pick small details, but I promise I’ve got it under control! This should also go without saying, but any negative body talk or commentary is strictly forbidden during the session. Being photographed is a vulnerable experience and I ask that you only provide positive feedback for your senior!

what’s next?

If you’re ready to book, or if you still have some more questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me!

Once you’ve chosen your package, we’ll get the ball rolling with the questionnaire, setting your date, and selecting some locations! A signed contract + 50% retainer is required to hold your date (payment plans are available - just ask), and then you’ll officially be on the calendar!

If you need help at any point throughout your planning process, whether it’s choosing outfits, navigating insecurity + anxiety, or just a little encouragement to do things your own way, I’m always glad to chat.

At the end of the day, I’m just so honored to be considered as your photographer. Thank you so much + enjoy this exciting season of your life!
